Each year Pure Ocean and the Sheraton Samoa Beach Resort play host to outrigger canoe teams from Samoa and around the world competing in the annual Savaii Crossing. This year four teams left the Pure Ocean beach for the 22km crossing from Upolu to Salelologa Harbour where they turned around and paddled 22km back again! The paddlers use a relay system with each team member paddling for 20mins before jumping overboard to be fished out of the water by a support boat and replaced by a fresh paddler. This year’s winners were Samoa’s own Pualele Outrigger Canoe Club showing local knowledge is everything! Congrats to all who took part!
